GCEMS Special Operations consists of several teams that incorporate Paramedics into their mission. These teams are intertwined within the Greenville County Emergency Response Team (ERT). ERT has two divisions they are Rescue and Hazardous Materials (Haz-Mat). Rescue includes areas such as High Angle, Confined Space, Remote Rescue, Building Collapse, Trench Rescue, Swift Water and Dive. Hazardous Materials (Haz-Mat) deals with the identification of hazardous materials, decontamination and treatment of patients and rescuers that come in to contact with the hazardous materials, and subsequent clean up. Other teams include the Greenville County Advanced COBRA Team (Chemical, Ordinace, Biological, Radiological).
We also have teams that work hand in hand with other departments. These include SWAT with the Greenville County Sheriffs Department and Greenville City Police Department. The Greenville County ERT Air Rescue Unit. With the help of the Sheriffs Office's UH1H (Huey) they are able to get specially trained paramedics and firefighters to very remote areas, extract patients and personel or fight wilderness fires.
We also have several paramedics on the Urban Search and Rescue team (USAR) at the State and Federal levels.
